As Christian Brothers Services (CBS) celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2020, it reminds us that we had a humble beginning in 1960 with a simple plan by company founder, Brother Joel Damian, FSC. Brother Damian’s plan was to pool the resources of LaSallian Christian Brothers’ run high schools to help them define and consolidate their insurance and financial needs. Brother Damian knew it would be the strength in numbers of its membership that would be vital to the success of the organization. He also knew that a commitment to service to CBS members would be just as essential.
Today, CBS serves seven Trusts, providing programs, administering cooperative programs in the areas of health, retirement, property/casualty, and technology as well as financial, administrative and Catholic school consulting to congregations, organizations and dioceses throughout the United States and Canada.
Much has changed about CBS in 60 years—our employees, the tools we use to operate the business, even our building. One thing that hasn’t changed is the service and commitment we dedicate to our members every day, the way Brother Damian envisioned it in 1960.
