Know Your Prescription Drug Plan

Smart90 Gives you a Choice in Prescription Delivery
A new benefit lets you fill a 90-day prescription at any of more than 8,000 Walgreens pharmacies (or its affiliates) nationwide. Starting Jan. 1, 2020, the Smart90 Prescriptions program gives you an option, if you would rather pick up your medications from a pharmacy than have them delivered through the mail.

SaveOnSP—Savings for Specialty Drugs
If you take a specialty drug for a chronic condition like rheumatoid arthritis, or multiple sclerosis, the CBEBT offers you the SaveOnSP program to help reduce the cost of the medication. SaveOnSP is a specialty pharmacy copay assistance program that covers certain expensive specialty medications, resulting in lower costs for you. The program works through Express Scripts and, once you are enrolled, you will continue to receive your specialty medications through Accredo, Express Scripts’ specialty mail-order provider. Enrollment in the program is voluntary, but if you choose not to enroll, you will pay the prescription drug copay for specialty medications and the copay will not count toward your Deductible or Out-of-Pocket maximum.

Check the Formulary
The prescription drug formulary is a list of drugs, generic and brand name, which offer the greatest overall value to you. CBEBT’s Pharmacy Benefits Manager, Express Scripts provides the National Preferred Formulary and updates it quarterly. The drugs are typically grouped into three tiers: generic, preferred brand and non-preferred brand. It’s a good idea to know how your medications are tiered and occasionally check to see if there are changes. Express Scripts also publishes a Formulary Exclusion list. Drugs on this list are not covered and in most cases, if you fill a prescription for one of these drugs, you will pay full retail price.

Generic Drugs-Member Pays the Difference
Did you know U.S. law requires generic medications to have the same quality and performance levels as their brand name equivalent? The only difference is the cost to you. Beginning in January 2020, all CBEBT plans will include a more comprehensive “Member Pays the Difference” provision. That means if a generic is available and the brand medication is filled, regardless of how the prescription is written, you will pay the brand copay and the difference between the brand and generic cost.
